§ 3-702. Appointments; terms; vacancies.

  • (a)

    Members shall be appointed by the mayor subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the council. The mayor shall appoint six members, one each from the six neighborhood planning unit study areas, based on recommendations from the city's 24 neighborhood planning units. Any person so appointed shall be a resident of the city at the time of appointment and during the term of office. Of the initial members appointed to the commission, three of the members shall be appointed for a term expiring on December 31, 1998; three members shall be appointed for a term expiring on December 31, 1999; and three members shall be appointed for a term expiring on December 31, 2000. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for three-year terms. Members of the commission shall select one of its members as chairperson.

    (b)

    If said appointments are not made by the first council meeting in July, the appointments shall be made by the Atlanta City Council, and the person filling the vacancy shall have all the qualifications prescribed for membership.

    (c)

    Any vacancy on the commission, however created, shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner as the position was originally filled, and the person filling the vacancy shall have and retain all the qualifications prescribed for membership.
