§ 94-67. Policy.

  • (a)

    This article vesting authority in the human relations commission to investigate and make recommendations to the mayor and to the appropriate city agency is an exercise of the police power of the city for the protection of the public welfare, health, peace and safety of the residents of the city. The council hereby finds and declares that the practice of discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex, domestic relationship status, parental status, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity, age, disability, or the use of a service animal in places of public accommodation constitutes matters of local concern and are contrary to the public welfare, health, peace and safety of the residents of the city. The human relations commission established in article II of this chapter is vested with authority to investigate and make recommendations to the mayor and appropriate city agency and to secure a response within 30 days pursuant to the provisions of this article in furtherance of this policy and in accordance with the procedures set forth in article VI of this chapter.

    (b)

    No institution, club, organization or place of accommodation which sponsors or conducts any amateur athletic contest or sparring exhibit and advertises or bills such contest or exhibition as a Georgia state championship contest or uses the words "Georgia state" in its announcements shall be deemed a private exhibition within the meaning of this section.
