Chapter 110. PARKS AND RECREATION |
Article I. IN GENERAL |
§ 110-2. Parks council.
(a)
There is established the parks council, membership in which shall be open to all residents of the city. The parks council shall be governed by a board of directors, of whom there will be 21. The members of the city council shall recommend to the mayor for appointment to the board of directors one person from each of the 12 districts, and the other nine members of the board of directors shall be nominated by the mayor. All members of the board of directors shall be subject to confirmation by the city council and shall serve one-year terms. The mayor shall designate seven members to serve on the executive committee. The Commissioner of parks and recreation and the directors of the bureau of parks and the bureau of recreation shall be ex officio members of the parks council.
(b)
The parks council will be responsible for the following activities:
(1)
Expressing the recreational needs and desires of the people of the city.
(2)
Planning and developing innovative techniques and programs in the bureaus of parks and recreation.
(3)
Soliciting philanthropic contributions to be used to improve the quality of the city's recreation system.
